How to choose the right olive oil for Bangladeshi cooking

Olive oil has become a regular sight in Bangladeshi kitchens, but the labels can be confusing. Extra virgin, virgin, pure and pomace are all called olive oil, yet they behave very differently in the pan.

Extra virgin olive oil

This is the first cold pressing of the olives, with no heat or chemicals. It has the most flavour and the highest level of natural antioxidants. Use it raw on salads and bhorta, or for gentle cooking.

Pure olive oil

Pure olive oil is a blend of refined and virgin oil. It has a milder taste and handles higher heat, so it works well for frying fish, making paratha or roasting vegetables.

What to look for on the label

  • A dark glass bottle or tin that protects the oil from light
  • A clear batch number and packing date
  • A way to verify that the product is genuine

Every Dr. Derma bottle carries a QR code. Scan it before you open the pack to make sure it came from our factory.
